Therapy and counselling
A quick thought on the difference between these words although they can of course be, and often are, used interchangeably. It can be useful to think of counselling as something you do when you’re trying to deal with a specific event or loss that has happened. When a problem comes into your life. And you might like to think of therapy as something you would do to deal more with those ongoing personal and interpersonal struggles. Not necessarily only when a problem has come into your life but quite simply when life itself has become a problem..
My approach
It’s really important you find the right counsellor or therapist. So the first thing we will do is to make sure that you and I are a good fit and that it feels right for you that we work together.
We would first deal with any urgent issues in your life that might be causing you problems or even be risky or dangerous.
And then together we will build a relationship of trust so we can explore the difficulties you’re dealing with and how we can help you get to a better place.
I work in long-term relationships so we can choose how long to work together and when it is time and you are ready to finish therapy. In other words - there is no time pressure. And… needless to say I, like you, want you to get your life to where you want it as soon as possible.
As an integrative psychotherapist I draw on many theories to ultimately find the approach that is going to work best for you. With a background in the arts I bring a fresh and creative approach to the work allowing us to find our own unique way of working that really speaks to you and your needs. I have a positive, forward looking approach. And also understand the importance of exploring, accepting and being with the difficult feelings that can overwhelm us at times.
I am a fully accredited member of the UKCP and adhere to their Ethical Principles and Code of Professional Conduct and GDPR.
Finally… I come to this work with a heart felt passion to help ease pain and suffering and to maximise the potential of every individual human life. We have one life, no dress rehearsal so let’s make this one the best it can be. Whatever that means to you. This is YOUR life. As Oscar Wilde said “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.” I see my role, as your therapist, as helping you become the YOU that you know you can become, to have the fulfilling relationships you wish for and to live the life you want to live.
I look forward to hearing from you and whether you get in touch or not I send you my very best and wish you well on the next steps of your journey.
